About this worksheet
This robot stands facing forward on two big oval feet, one arm raised in a wave and the other resting by its side. Both hands are simple rounded mitts with three thick fingers each. Its head is a large dome with two small round ear bumps, a thin antenna topped by a ball, two dot eyes, curved eyebrow lines and a small closed-mouth smile. In the middle of its round tummy is one heart outline, and both arms and both legs are crossed by a couple of curved band lines like stripes on a jumper sleeve.
Most of this page is made up of big, open shapes: the head, the body and the feet all give a young hand plenty of room to colour without needing to stay inside tight lines. The heart on the chest and the striped bands on the arms and legs are smaller and ask for a bit more care, which makes a nice change of pace partway through. It is an easy one to talk about while colouring too — ask your child why the robot is waving, or what colour heart they think a friendly robot should have.
Because the big shapes outnumber the fiddly ones, this sheet sits on the easier end and suits children who are still building confidence with a crayon, including younger preschoolers. Older four and five year olds can use it to practise picking different colours for the arm and leg bands rather than colouring the whole robot one shade.
How to use this sheet
Start with the head and body, the biggest spaces, before moving to the heart and the arm and leg bands. If the small fingers or bands feel too fiddly, skip them and come back at the end, or colour them a single block colour.
