Candy Cane Heart Colouring Page

This page shows two candy canes hooked together, curling outward at the top like a pair of shepherd's crooks and crossing over each other at the bottom point to make a single heart shape. Each cane is carved up into six or seven wide diagonal stripes, so a child colouring it is really filling in a row of bands down each side rather than one solid shape. The middle of the heart, where the two canes meet, is left open as one big blank space.

What makes this one worth printing is the size of the shapes. The stripes are drawn broad and the lines are thick and forgiving, so a preschooler can go stripe by stripe without needing to stay inside anything fiddly. It is also a natural excuse to talk about pattern: red, white, red, white, and does it matter which stripe comes first. There is nothing else going on in the picture, no background, no extra characters, so the whole page is about that one repeating choice.

Compared with busier holiday sheets, this is on the easy side. There are more stripes to fill than in a plain heart outline, but each one is large and clearly bordered, so it suits younger colourers who are just getting comfortable staying inside lines, as well as older preschoolers who want to set up a proper candy-cane stripe pattern before they start.
