What your child practises
- Colours three large, separate scoop shapes without letting them blur together
- Handles a small enclosed shape carefully by colouring the cherry and its stem
- Practises fine motor control filling the tiny eyes and cheek circles on the face
- Picks a different colour for each scoop to tell them apart
- Follows a curved outline round the glass bowl and its narrow stem base
About this worksheet
This sundae has three big scoops piled into a footed glass cup, a swirl of whipped cream on top, and one cherry on a curly stem sitting right at the peak. The glass itself has a face: two eyebrows, two round eyes, rosy cheeks and a wide open smile, plus a stubby three-fingered hand waving from each side. It sits on a simple oval base, so the whole thing reads as a character rather than just a dessert on a plate.
Nearly everything here is a big, closed-off shape, which is what makes it satisfying for a small child to fill in. Each scoop is one broad area, the cream swirl breaks into a few soft bumps rather than sharp points, and the glass bowl is a single wide curve. The only fiddly bits are the cherry, its stem, and the facial features, so a child gets a mix of colouring one whole big shape and then slowing down for one tiny circle. It is a nice page for talking about which scoop should be which flavour, and why the cherry always sits right on top.
This sits on the easier end of the shelf. There is no shading, no background clutter and no tight linework to fight against, so it suits preschoolers who are still learning to stay inside the lines as much as older toddlers who just want to get the whole page covered quickly. Kids who like giving food a face tend to enjoy this one more than a plain bowl of scoops would get them.
How to use this sheet
Let your child pick a flavour colour for each of the three scoops first, then the cherry last so it stands out. If the small facial details feel fiddly, skip them and come back with a fine-tip marker once the big scoops are done.
