What your child practices

  • Build crayon control by filling wide, thickly outlined stripes
  • Repeat the same three-color order across all three candy corns
  • Count the candy corns, the stripes on each one and the falling leaves
  • Choose and name colors for the stripes, the bow and the leaves

About this worksheet

This coloring page shows three tall pieces of candy corn with happy faces standing side by side, wrapped together by a ribbon with a big bow on the middle one. Each piece is split into wide stripes from its pointed tip to its round base, and your child colors every stripe a different color. Two leaves drift down in the top and bottom corners, and a question under the picture asks whether they can give all three candy corns the same three colors.

Filling a wide band from edge to edge asks a child to slow the crayon down and steer it along a line, which is how hand and finger control grow between two and five. Coloring the three pieces the same way is also an early pattern task: the child has to remember an order of colors and repeat it, a skill early math later builds on.

Set out just three or four crayons before your child starts. A small choice is easier to keep in mind, and it makes repeating the same color order across all three candy corns much more manageable for a younger child.

How to use this sheet

Before coloring, run a finger down one candy corn with your child and count its stripes together. When the page is done, ask them to find the two leaves and tell you which one is falling at the top.
