About this worksheet
This wand has a big five-pointed star at the top, drawn with a simple smiling face: two round eyes and a small curved mouth. Below the star, a neat bow is tied round the straight handle, and off to the sides float three diamond-shaped sparkles of different sizes. Every shape sits on its own, with plenty of white space between them, so there is no hunting for where one line ends and the next begins.
What makes this one worth printing is the size of the areas. The star is one large, open shape a child can fill with a single colour and barely lift the crayon. The handle is a long straight strip that is satisfying to run a marker down in one stroke. The bow has a bit more going on, with its two loops and centre knot, and the sparkles are small enough to ask for a different colour each if your child fancies that. It is an easy page to talk through too: which colour makes the best magic, why the star is smiling, whether the sparkles should all match.
This sits on the easy end of the scale. The star, handle and sparkles are all forgiving of a wobbly hand, and only the bow asks for slightly steadier control to keep inside its loops. It suits younger preschoolers colouring mostly independently, and older ones who want to add extra sparkle by drawing in more stars of their own.
How to use this sheet
Start with the big star since it is the easiest area to fill, then let your child choose separate colours for the bow and the three sparkles. If the bow's loops feel fiddly, colouring it as one solid shape is fine too.
