Shapes worksheets for 3 year olds

Four shapes worksheets pitched at 3 year olds, free to print with no account and no watermark. Every one is an easy sheet: big shapes, thick lines and room to be inaccurate.

Shape work doubles as pre-writing practice, since drawing a closed triangle needs the same planning as forming a letter.

They assume a child who copies vertical, horizontal and circular strokes, which is typical at three. If that is not there yet, the age 2 sheets are the better place to start.

Sheets in this set include Find and Color the Circles, Trace and Learn the Shapes and Shapes in Everyday Things. Each is one page on A4, laid out with margins wide enough that nothing is lost printing on US Letter.

Five to ten minutes at a time is plenty at this age, and going outside the lines is the expected outcome rather than a mistake. Print in grayscale to save ink, or slide the sheet into a sheet protector and hand over a dry-erase marker so the same page lasts a month.

What most 3 year olds can do

  • •Copies vertical, horizontal and circular strokes
  • •Counts objects up to five with one-to-one pointing
  • •Sorts confidently by a single attribute like color
  • •Begins to recognize the letters in their own name

Averages, not targets. Children vary enormously at this age.
