About this worksheet

A shape-hunt with no writing at all. Sixteen shapes are laid out in a grid and eight of them are circles; everything else is a distractor.

Picking one shape out of a mixed set is a different skill from naming a shape shown on its own. Your child has to hold "circle" in mind while checking each item against it β€” an early form of the working memory that later powers reading and mental arithmetic.

The number of circles differs from row to row, so the page cannot be solved by spotting a rhythm in their positions rather than actually looking at each shape.

How to use this sheet

When they finish, count the coloured circles together. Eight is the answer β€” finding six and recounting is a perfectly good outcome.
