About this worksheet
This sheet shows a boy standing with his feet planted wide apart, gripping a round spool of string in both hands and grinning up at his kite. The kite is a plain diamond shape floating in the top corner of the page, with a curved tail below it carrying two neat bows. He is dressed in a simple t-shirt, shorts, knee-high socks and trainers, and three small tufts of grass sit at his feet to mark the ground. There is nothing else on the page to distract from him.
The kite itself is one big open diamond, so it is the easy win of the picture, the sort of space a three-year-old can fill in two confident strokes without worrying about staying inside the lines. The reward comes from the fiddlier bits nearby: the ringed spool in his hands, the two small bows on the tail, and the curved string that links them all together. Those are good spots to slow down, pick a second or third colour, and talk about why the string dips and curves instead of running straight.
There is no background scenery and no shading to work around, which keeps this on the easier end of what we offer, though the spool and bows do ask for a steadier hand than the plainest sheets in this category. It suits a child who has coloured a few pages already and is ready for one drawing with both big shapes and small details, rather than one or the other.
How to use this sheet
Start with the kite since it is the biggest, easiest shape, then move to the spool and bows where little hands need to slow down. If the string line wobbles outside it, that is fine, it is decoration, not the main event.
