About this worksheet
A large five-pointed star sits in the middle of the page with a simple face: two round dot eyes and a curved smile, nothing more. Around it are six more five-pointed stars, all the same plain outline with no faces of their own. Thick double-line bands, like short ribbons, link the centre star out to the star at top left, the star to its right, the star to its left, and down to the star at bottom left, and one more band runs along the bottom to join the two lower stars together. The star tucked into the top right corner sits on its own, with no band reaching it at all. Seven stars in total, and five ribbon shapes threading most of them into one loose constellation pattern.
Every star and every ribbon is a big, open, curved area, so this is mostly about staying inside wide, generous lines rather than working around fiddly detail. The face on the centre star is a natural place to start, and the straight but rounded ribbons make a nice change of shape from the stars themselves, narrow enough that a child has to slow their hand down a little. The lone star in the top right corner is a good excuse to talk about how stars in the sky get joined up into pictures, and why this one has been left out.
There is nothing small or crowded here, which makes this one of the easier sheets in the outer space set, well suited to a child who is still building the control to stay inside a line. A toddler will finish it quickly with a few colours; a preschooler can slow down and give every star and every ribbon its own colour.
How to use this sheet
Start with the smiling star in the middle, then work along the connecting ribbons before finishing the six outer stars. Ask your child why the top right star has no line to it - there's no wrong answer, it's just for talking.
