What your child practices

  • Matches numerals 6 to 10 to quantities
  • Counts groups too large to recognize at a glance
  • Begins to see five as a building block of bigger numbers
  • Keeps track of counted and uncounted items

About this worksheet

This page continues the values work into the 6 to 10 range, where counting gets genuinely harder. Groups this size cannot be recognized at a glance, so the child has to count carefully and keep track of what has been counted already.

The shape clusters are arranged in rows of five, which quietly plants one of the most useful ideas in early math: that eight is five and three more. You may hear it click β€” a glance at the row for 8 and "five… six, seven, eight" instead of starting from one.

As on the 1 to 5 page, each row ends with an orange box for drawing the same amount. Drawing eight of anything takes patience; dots are entirely acceptable.

How to use this sheet

If your child loses count, suggest touching each shape as they go β€” that tracking strategy is the real lesson of the 6 to 10 range.
