About this worksheet
This toy castle has three chunky towers: a tall one in the middle and two shorter ones either side, each topped with a plain triangular roof. A little flag on a pole sits at the very top. The middle tower has a round, smiling face on its body, and just below it a row of small square notches steps down to a big arched doorway, which also has its own smiley face. The two side towers each have one small arched window, and the whole castle sits on three scalloped, wavy-edged mounds instead of straight ground.
Most of this page is made up of big, closed shapes: the three roofs, the tower bodies and the door are all wide open spaces a young child can fill in without much steering. The two windows and the flag are smaller and give slightly older hands something fiddlier to aim for. Because the castle has two faces looking back at the colourer, it is an easy one to talk about while colouring, who lives in each tower, why the castle is smiling, which colour the flag should be.
There is nothing tricky here. The lines are thick, the spacing between shapes is generous, and there are no fine patterns or repeated tiny details to fight with a crayon. That makes it a good early sheet for toddlers just starting to stay inside the lines, while the small windows and flag still give a four or five year old something to slow down for.
How to use this sheet
Let your child start with the three big roofs and tower bodies first, since those are the easiest wins. Save the small windows and flag for last, and ask them to pick a different colour for each tower so the castle doesn't end up looking like a matching set.
