Waving Astronaut Suit Coloring Page

This astronaut stands facing forward with one hand raised in a wave and the other resting by their side. The round helmet frames a grinning face with tufty hair, two eyebrows, two eyes and a nose, and the helmet has a wide glass rim plus a small rounded panel on each side, like ear covers. Down the front of the suit is a chest control box with a rectangular screen and one round button, and a rounded backpack peeks out from behind the shoulder. The legs are wrapped in wide padded bands like a stack of rings, ending in two big rounded boots.

There is a good spread of shapes here for little hands. The helmet, chest panel, boots and puffed-up sleeves are all large, closed spaces that color in with a few big strokes and forgive a wobbly crayon. The banded legs are the trickier bit, asking a child to keep several narrow rings separate rather than one color, which is a nice small step up once the easy parts are done. The face gives them something to talk about too: is the astronaut happy to see them, and what color should the helmet glass be.

Most of the page is easy going, so it suits a child just starting out with coloring as well as one who wants a bit more to do on the striped legs and control panel. It works well as a first go at "space" without asking a preschooler to manage rockets, stars or a busy background.
