About this worksheet
This page shows one trainer from the side, the kind with two Velcro straps instead of laces, sitting up on a thick, curved sole. The toe is a big rounded cap, the collar rises up behind it, and there is a small swirl line tucked into the panel near the heel, like a bit of stitching. The sole has a gentle curved line running along it separating the rim from the tread underneath.
What makes it worth printing is the size of the spaces. The toe cap, the two straps, the side panel and the sole are all large, closed shapes with nothing fiddly inside them, so a child can colour the whole shoe in a handful of different colours and it will still look tidy even with a wobbly hand. The one small swirl by the heel is the only bit that asks for any real care, which makes a nice place to stop and slow down for a moment if they want to. It is also just a shoe they know from putting on themselves, so it is easy to talk about while colouring: what colour laces, or straps, would they actually pick.
This is on the easy end of the shelf. There are no tiny background details and no crowded scene, just one object with a handful of clean sections, so it suits a two or three year old just starting out with crayons as well as an older preschooler who wants to finish something quickly and move on.
How to use this sheet
Start with the two big straps in one colour so your child sees quick progress, then move to the sole and toe cap. Save the small heel swirl for last, it is the only part that needs a steady hand.
