About this worksheet
Comparing size is one of the first pieces of mathematical reasoning a child does, and it comes well before counting. This sheet presents six rows, each with the same shape drawn twice at clearly different sizes.
Both shapes in a row are always identical apart from size, so the comparison cannot be made on any other basis. The bigger shape alternates between the left and the right so the page cannot be completed by picking a side and sticking with it.
There is a second pass built in: once the bigger shapes are circled, the prompt at the bottom asks for a cross on each smaller one. Doing the same page twice with the opposite rule is surprisingly demanding, because the child has to override the habit they just built.
