Letter Sounds F to J

One picture per letter for F to J. Each cell shows the capital and small letter together, a picture, and the word underneath — F is for fish, G is for grapes, H is for horse, I is for ice cream, J is for jellyfish.

This band has the alphabet's quietest letters — few everyday words start with I or J for a small child, so ice cream and jellyfish earn their place by being memorable. F for fish and G for grapes carry the band.

Children this age are not reading the labels, and that is fine. The routine to build is say-and-point: say the letter, say its sound, say the word, point at the picture. Ten seconds per cell, and the letter-sound link does the rest of the work over the following weeks. Coloring the pictures afterward is optional and entirely encouraged.
