Match the Color to the Thing

Six color words run down the left side of the page, each with an empty box beside it: red, blue, yellow, green, orange and pink. Six pictures sit on the right in a mixed-up order: bananas, a flamingo, a frog, a carrot, an apple and a whale. Your child draws a line from each color to the thing that is that color, colors in the box, then colors the picture.

Nothing on the page is colored, so there is no color to copy. Your child has to remember that frogs are green and carrots are orange, which takes more than spotting two colors that look alike. Tying a color name to real things they have seen also helps the word stick.

Most children this age can't read the color words yet, so read each one aloud and point to it. If your child gets stuck, color the box first and let them look for the picture that matches it.
