About this worksheet
Once straight lines behave, curves are next. This page practices the two curved families on four-line handwriting guides: bumpy curves — the up-and-over move behind m, n and h — and loops, the closed circles behind e, o and a.
Curves are harder than they look. A straight line has one job; a curve asks the wrist to keep turning at a steady rate, and young hands tend to flatten curves into tents or spiral loops inward. The dotted targets keep the shape honest.
Watch the direction on loops especially: counterclockwise, the same direction most letters want. A child who loops clockwise now will fight their own habit when letter formation starts.
How to use this sheet
Watch the first loop your child draws: if it goes clockwise, demonstrate the counterclockwise direction with a big arm circle in the air before returning to the page.
