What your child practices

  • Recognize numbers between 11 and 20
  • Compare both digits of a two-digit number
  • Tell apart look-alike numbers such as 16 and 19
  • Draw a line between two chosen dots

About this worksheet

Seven big numbers from 11 to 20 sit down the left side: 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20. The same numbers appear in a different order on the right. Your child finds each number's twin and joins the pair with a line from dot to dot.

Most numbers from 11 to 19 start with a 1, so the second digit is what tells them apart. Pairs such as 13 and 15 or 16 and 19 look alike at a glance. Matching them teaches children to check both digits before deciding, not just the first one they see.

Say each number's name as your child points to it. If two numbers get mixed up, cover the 1 with a finger and compare the second digits.

How to use this sheet

Let your child finish the matches that come easily first, then go back to the harder ones. When the page is done, read each matched pair aloud together and ask which numbers between 11 and 20 are missing.
