About this worksheet
This mushroom has a face. Two oval eyes and a curved smile sit on its broad stem, one arm raised in a wave and the other hanging down at its side. The cap on top is domed and oversized, marked with three round spots, two of them large and one smaller off to the side. Below, two short legs end in rounded feet, and a clump of pointed grass blades stands on either side of the mushroom to fill out the scene.
Nearly everything here is a big, single shape. The cap, the stem, each spot, each foot: all closed areas with plenty of room for a crayon, so there is no need for a steady hand or a fine tip. The spots are the only part that call for staying inside a smaller circle, and there are just three of them, which makes a good place to talk about counting or picking a different colour for each one. A child can decide whether the mushroom wears red with white spots like the ones in storybooks, or invent their own colour scheme entirely.
This is a straightforward, low-pressure sheet, easier than most in the vegetable set because there is so little fine detail. It suits younger colourers who are still working on staying inside the lines, or anyone who wants a quick, satisfying page rather than a long project.
How to use this sheet
Let your child start with the big cap first, since it is the easiest shape to succeed on early. Save the three spots for last, and count them together out loud before picking colours for each one.
