About this worksheet
This page has just one thing on it: a tall zigzag lightning bolt with a friendly face. Its eyes are closed in two happy curves and its mouth is a wide, open smile, sitting right in the middle of the bolt. The bolt's edges are jagged, the way lightning is drawn, but every corner has been softened and rounded off, so there is nothing sharp or spiky about it. The background is empty, so the bolt is the only thing a child needs to look at or colour in.
Because the whole bolt is one connected outline, a child can colour it in a single sweep without hunting for small gaps or switching colours every few seconds. The face is the only part that asks for more care, since the eye curves and the smile are narrow lines close together, which is good practice for slowing down and turning a crayon carefully around a small space. It is also an easy picture to talk about while colouring: ask your child what colour they think lightning should be, or whether this bolt looks more excited than scary.
This is one of the simpler sheets in the Nature & Weather set, with a single large shape and only three small enclosed areas for the face. How to use this sheet
Let your child colour the big bolt shape first with one main colour, then come back for the face last, since the eyes and mouth are the fussiest part. If the smile gets messy, a darker outline colour traced over it afterwards hides small slips.
