About this worksheet
This page shows one poppy, front on, with four large rounded petals fanning out around a small circle in the middle. A straight double-lined stem runs down to a pair of leafy sprigs, one on each side, and the whole plant sits on a low grassy mound at the bottom of the page. Nothing else is on the sheet, just the flower, its leaves and the ground it grows from.
The four petals are the main event, each one a wide, curved space big enough for a young child to fill without worrying about staying inside the lines. The little centre circle is the one small area on the page, a good spot to try a different colour or a careful hand. The two leaves add some texture with their scalloped edges, so a child who wants more to do than four petals and a circle has somewhere to go, and the mound at the bottom gives an easy strip to finish on.
This is a simple, forgiving sheet, closer to easy than medium, with only a few enclosed shapes and none of them fiddly. It suits toddlers and preschoolers who are still building control over a crayon, and it works well as a first flower page for a child who has not coloured a poppy before.
How to use this sheet
Let your child start with the four big petals, since those are the easiest wins. Save the small centre circle for last, when their hand has warmed up, and talk about which colour a real poppy might be as they go.
