Friendly Spider Colouring Page

This spider sits square in the middle of the page, facing straight out, with a big round body stacked on a slightly smaller round head. Its eyes are already inked in solid black with a little white highlight, and it has a simple curved smile, so there is no chance of colouring the face the wrong way. Eight legs reach out from the sides, four on each side, each one bent twice like a zigzag, ending in a small rounded foot. There is no web, no background and no other bugs on the page, just the spider on plain white.

What makes this one worth printing is the size of the shapes. The head and body are two large open circles a child can fill in a couple of big scribbly strokes without worrying about staying inside tiny lines, and the eight legs give a natural reason to swap colours as they go, one colour per leg or one for the whole spider. Because the eyes and mouth are already done, a child can focus entirely on covering space rather than getting a face right, which is a nice change from busier sheets. It is also an easy one to talk about while colouring: count the legs together, spot which ones bend the same way, decide if this spider is friendly or fierce.

This is one of the easier sheets in the Insects and Little Bugs set, with thick outlines and no small enclosed areas to fuss over. It suits a child just starting to colour inside lines, and works equally well as a quick five-minute activity or a slower one if they choose to give each leg its own colour.
