- Talks about the ant's face and pose while colouring it
About this worksheet
This ant stands on the page looking straight out, one front leg lifted and bent like a little waving hand. Its face takes up most of the head: two large round eyes with a bright highlight dot in each, a pair of curved eyebrows, and a small closed smile. Two antennae curve up from the top of the head, each ending in a plain oval. Below the head sit two more rounded body sections, a smaller middle one and a much bigger one at the back, and six thin legs reach down to the ground, bending at the knee the way a real ant's legs do.
The head, and the two big body circles behind it, give a child plenty of open space to fill in with one steady colour, which is where most of this page will be finished. The six legs are a different kind of job: each one is a narrow strip with a bend in it, so little hands have to slow down and stay inside a much tighter line than the body asks for. That contrast, big and easy versus thin and careful, is what makes this page worth doing rather than skipping past. It is also an easy one to talk about while colouring: ask how many legs the ant has, or which leg is waving hello.
Nothing here is fussy or overcrowded, and there is no background to fill in, just the ant on a plain page. It sits on the easier end of the shelf, well suited to a child who is happy with big shapes but is just starting to manage smaller ones like the legs and antennae without help.
How to use this sheet
Start with the two big body circles, the easiest part, before moving to the thin legs and antennae. If a leg goes outside the lines, let it go and move on. Ask your child to count the six legs and find the one waving hello.
