Match the Letter to the Picture: P to T

Five capital letters run down the left side, P to T in order. Five pictures are mixed up down the right: a rabbit, a tiger, a queen, a parrot and a sun. Your child says each picture's name and draws a line from each letter to the picture whose name starts with it.

Hearing the first sound of a spoken word is one of the earliest sound skills children build, and it helps them get ready to read. Around ages 3 to 5, many children can pick out the first sound of a word before they can hear the sounds in the middle or at the end. Linking that sound to a printed letter is how phonics starts.

Every picture has its name printed underneath, so a child who already knows letters could just match the first letter of the word. To make sure your child is listening, fold the bottom of each picture box under or cover the words with a strip of paper.
