What your child practices

  • Match identical capital letters from G to L
  • Compare straight lines, feet, and hooks in similar letters
  • Scan a mixed-up column to find a matching letter
  • Draw a line to join two dots

About this worksheet

Six big capital letters, G to L, run down the left side. The same six letters are mixed up on the right. Your child finds each letter's twin and draws a line between their dots.

Many letters in this group share a tall straight line. I is just that line, L adds a foot, J adds a hook, and H and K both start with a line on the left. Children at this age learn to tell letters apart by noticing these small extra parts, and that close looking comes before reading.

Before your child draws, have them trace the letter with a finger and say what they notice, such as "a line with a foot." Then they can look for a letter on the right that matches that description.

How to use this sheet

Have your child finish one pair at a time, starting at the top. After each line, say the letter's name together so the shape and name go together.
