What your child practices

  • Match identical capital letters from S to Z
  • Tell apart letters built from slanted lines
  • Scan a mixed-up column to find a letter's twin
  • Draw a line between two chosen dots

About this worksheet

Eight big capital letters from S to Z sit down the left side, with the same letters mixed up on the right. Your child finds each letter's twin and joins the pair with a line from dot to dot.

The end of the alphabet is full of slanted lines: V, W, X, and Y use similar strokes put together in different ways. Telling them apart means noticing how the lines meet or cross, the same close looking children need later when they learn to read.

Invite your child to trace each letter with a finger before searching for its twin. If V and Y or W and X get mixed up, count the lines together or point to where they cross.

How to use this sheet

With eight pairs on the page, cover the lower half with a sheet of paper and match the top four first. Say each letter's name aloud as your child joins it to its twin.
