Sliding Penguin Coloring Page

This penguin is flat on its tummy, mid-slide, with one wing raised near its head and the other stretched out flat behind it. Its two webbed feet are kicked up in the air, and its round face has big shiny eyes and an open beak with a big grin. Underneath the penguin sits one long oval patch of ice, and below that three curved swoosh lines sweep across the page to show the speed of the slide.

Almost every shape here is large and open: the head, the round belly, both wings and the ice patch itself. That makes this a good page for a child who is still working out how to stay inside a line, because one wobble on the belly or the ice oval will not ruin the picture. The only small spots are the two eyes and the beak, which give a child a chance to slow down and use a finer stroke for just a moment. The swoosh lines under the penguin are a nice thing to talk about while coloring — ask why the penguin is sliding so fast, or what color ice should be.

This is on the easy side, with no background clutter and no tiny gaps to fill in. It suits a preschooler coloring mostly on their own, and it also works well for a toddler who just wants to scribble inside big friendly shapes.
