About this worksheet
This caterpillar has a big round head with two bobble antennae, two oval eyes and a simple curved smile. Behind the head, six rounded body segments trail off in a line, each one a little smaller than the last, and each sitting on a pair of small stub feet. The whole caterpillar rests along one long, curved leaf that stretches almost the full width of the page, pointed at both ends.
Every segment is its own closed shape, so a child can give the head one colour, then work along the body giving each bump a different shade if they want a stripy caterpillar, or keep it all one colour for something calmer. The leaf underneath is the biggest space on the page by far, which makes a good place to start and a good place to recover if the smaller segments get tricky. The feet are the only fiddly bits, and there is no background clutter competing for attention, so the whole picture stays easy to read even mid-colour.
There is nothing hard about this sheet. The segments are large and clearly separated, the face is minimal, and the leaf gives one generous, forgiving area to fill. It suits a toddler colouring for the first time as well as an older preschooler who wants to experiment with a different colour per segment, and it prints cleanly on a single sheet with no fine detail lost.
How to use this sheet
Start with the leaf, since it is the biggest space and hardest to spoil. Then move segment by segment along the body. If your child wants every segment the same colour, that is fine too, it is still their choice to make.
