About this worksheet
Five large outlined faces show happy, sad, angry, surprised, and scared. Under each face is its feeling word in dotted letters. Your child traces the word, then colors the face.
Between ages 3 and 5, children are starting to put names to their feelings, and having the words makes it easier to say what is wrong instead of acting it out. Comparing the faces teaches them to look for clues: raised or slanted eyebrows, round or narrowed eyes, a smile, a frown, an open mouth. Tracing the longer words and coloring inside the circles also builds pencil and crayon control.
Pick one face and ask when your child last felt that way. A short story from their own day makes the word stick better than repeating it.
How to use this sheet
Read each word aloud and make the matching face together in a mirror before tracing. Any color is fine for any feeling, so let your child choose.
