What your child practices

  • Recognize the capital letters Z, R, S, L, W, X, and M
  • Compare letters that share slants, curves, and points
  • Spot the one detail that makes a look-alike letter different
  • Circle one matching answer from three choices

About this worksheet

Seven big capital letters sit in boxes down the page: Z, R, S, L, W, X, and M. An arrow points to three capitals beside each box, and only one is exactly the same. Your child finds it and draws a circle around it.

The other letters look close on purpose, like Z beside N, R beside P and B, S beside G and C, or W beside V and M. To pick the right one, children have to notice a slant, a closed loop, or an extra point. Children of this age are still learning that small details like these change which letter it is. Noticing them now makes letters easier to tell apart once reading begins.

Name the letter in the box together before your child looks along the row. If they circle a look-alike, trace both letters with a finger and talk about the part that is different.

How to use this sheet

Cover the other rows with a sheet of paper so your child can focus on one row at a time. Once the page is done, ask them to name each circled letter.
