About this worksheet

Short route, plenty of forks. At 25 squares this is among the quickest ways through any sheet in the series, but 10 dead ends branch off it — more than most. The combination suits a child who tends to set off down the first opening they see: the page is not long enough to be tiring, and it punishes rushing often enough to be worth slowing down for.

Cats really do chase anything that rolls, and a child who has watched one bat a ball across the floor will get the joke before the pencil moves. A ball of yarn is one long thread wound around itself, a bit like this route folded into a small square. Ask which way the thread would unroll if the cat knocked it off a chair.

There is exactly one way through: no loops, and no square cut off from the rest.

How to use this sheet

This is a short route with lots of side branches, so it rewards slowing down at each fork. Ask your child to stop and look both ways every time the path splits before choosing. If they get stuck, put a coin on the last fork so they know where to come back to.
