Eighteen dead ends on an 81-square route puts this among the most forked pages in the series. The picture carries its own urgency — the truck is needed somewhere — and that is worth leaning on with a child who tends to drift halfway down a long maze.

Firefighters practice until they can get dressed and onto the truck in about a minute, and they learn the roads so no time is lost. Here the truck is heading home to the station, a good excuse to talk about what firefighters do between calls: cleaning equipment, training and checking hydrants. The maze is heavily forked, so careful choices matter more than speed.
