  • Holds concentration through a long, multi-step task
  • Keeps a drawn line inside a boundary

About this worksheet

Going to ground: the goal is a hole the fox disappears into, which small children find satisfying in a way that an apple or a bone is not. Seventy-five squares and 46 turns place it squarely in the middle of the level 3 range on both counts.

Twelve cells across brings the corridors down to about one and a third centimeters. At that width the pencil work is genuinely part of the difficulty, so these sheets suit a child who has already stopped needing to rest their whole hand on the page to draw a straight line.

The way through runs 75 squares and turns 46 times, with 14 dead ends branching off it. The grid is carved so that exactly one route connects the start to the finish: no loops, no second way round, and no corner walled off from the rest. Every square can be reached, and a child who follows the route carefully will always get there.

How to use this sheet

Trace the route with a finger first, then go over it with a pencil. Separating the thinking from the pencil work means neither one spoils the other.
