About this worksheet

The middle rung, and the step where a maze stops being a quick win. The grid goes from 8 cells across to 10, which sounds small and is not: the route doubles from 27 squares to 55, and it changes direction 28 times on the way. Print level 1 first if you have not, then this one — the jump is the interesting part.

Ten cells across puts the corridors a little over one and a half centimeters wide. Still wide enough for a pencil held in a whole-hand grip, but narrow enough that staying inside the lines is now part of the task rather than a given.

The way through runs 55 squares and turns 28 times, with 11 dead ends branching off it. The grid is carved so that exactly one route connects the start to the finish: no loops, no second way round, and no corner walled off from the rest. Every square can be reached, and a child who follows the route carefully will always get there.

How to use this sheet

Trace the route with a finger first, then go over it with a pencil. Separating the thinking from the pencil work means neither one spoils the other.
