About this worksheet
Mice and cheese need no explaining, which is exactly why the pairing suits a first maze. Nothing in the picture has to be worked out, so all the effort goes into the route.
Level one of four. Eight cells across gives corridors a shade under two centimetres wide — roomy enough that a five year old's pencil control is never the thing holding them up, so the page is purely about finding the way.
The way through runs 27 squares and eight dead ends branch off it. The grid is carved so that exactly one route connects the mouse to the cheese: no loops, no second way round, and no corner walled off from the rest, so every square can be reached and a child who follows it carefully will always get there.
How to use this sheet
Trace the route with a finger first, then go over it with a pencil.
