About this worksheet

The only goal in the series a child would be told off for going near, which is exactly why it works. A pig heading for a mud puddle gets a laugh before the pencil moves, and a page that starts with a laugh gets finished more often than one that starts with an instruction.

Pigs roll in mud because they cannot sweat much, and a coat of mud keeps them cool and protects their skin from the sun and from insects. So the pig in this picture is being sensible, not messy. Children love to repeat that fact, and it gives the whole maze a joke to carry it along.

There is exactly one way through: no loops, and no square cut off from the rest.

How to use this sheet

Start with the joke: ask why a pig would want mud. Then trace the route with a finger and let your child splash a brown dot into each dead end they find. Draw the finished route in brown, the muddy way home.
