About this worksheet

A long route with a gentle shape. The way through is 29 squares but turns only 17 times, so it travels in reasonably long straight runs rather than zigzagging cell by cell. Straight runs are easier to hold in your head and easier to draw, which is why this one tends to go down well with a child meeting their second or third maze.

Dogs find their way mostly by smell, and a puppy's nose is many times more sensitive than ours. Ask your child how the puppy might sniff out the bone, and whether a nose would help in a maze with walls. It would not help much here: the way through has to be found by looking, one fork at a time.

There is exactly one way through: no loops, and no square cut off from the rest.

How to use this sheet

Let your child sniff along the route with a finger, like a puppy on a trail, then draw it. Keep the pencil on the paper through each corner rather than lifting it. Coloring the bone afterwards makes a good reward.
