About this worksheet

Squirrels and acorns come with a season attached, which makes this one easy to reach for in autumn alongside leaf printing and acorn collecting. The maze itself is one of the shorter ones at 25 squares, so it fits in the gap before something else rather than needing an afternoon.

Squirrels bury nuts in autumn and dig many of them up again in winter, finding them by memory and smell. The ones they miss can grow into new oak trees, so a forgetful squirrel is also a tree planter. It is a lovely fact to share while working through this short maze, and it pairs well with an acorn hunt on a walk.

There is exactly one way through: no loops, and no square cut off from the rest.

How to use this sheet

This is a quick one, so it fits before lunch or after school. Ask your child to remember, like a squirrel, which openings they have already tried, without marking them. If memory runs out, switch to marking dead ends with a dot.
