About this worksheet

This Halloween maze starts with a little trick-or-treater in a cat costume, holding a jack-o'-lantern candy bucket, in the top corner, and finishes at a smiling pumpkin in the bottom corner. Your child draws one line along the wide paths between them, a route with five turns and several dead ends to avoid, then colors both pictures.

Between three and five, children are learning to think a movement through before they make it. A maze asks for exactly that: look ahead to see where a path goes, then steer the crayon so the line stays between two walls. Wide corridors keep the challenge on planning rather than precision, and backing out of a dead end is early practice in trying another way.

Let your child trace the route with a finger before picking up a crayon. If the line runs into a dead end, call it a detour and head back to the last turn together.

How to use this sheet

Give your child a chunky crayon or marker for the maze line, since it is easier to steer than a thin pencil. Afterward, ask what color the costume and the candy bucket should be before they start coloring.
