What your child practises

  • Forms the numerals 6 to 10
  • Counts quantities beyond five with confidence
  • Begins to recognise groups of five without recounting
  • Reinforces the link between numeral and quantity

About this worksheet

This sheet continues from Trace Numbers 1 to 5 and covers the numerals 6 through 10. The shape clusters on the right are arranged in rows of five, which quietly introduces one of the most useful ideas in early maths: that seven is five and two more.

Grouping in fives means a child can eventually recognise a quantity without recounting from one every time β€” a skill called subitising. You will notice it happening when they glance at the row for 8 and say "five and three" instead of counting each shape.

The numerals 6, 8 and 9 are the ones most commonly reversed at this age. Reversals are completely normal well into the first year of school and are not a sign of a problem.

How to use this sheet

If your child reverses a numeral, simply model the correct direction beside it rather than erasing their attempt.
