What your child practices

  • Draws the tall line of T down the middle
  • Adds the bar across the very top
  • Keeps the bar level and centered
  • Tells capital T apart from a plus sign

About this worksheet

A tall line and a hat. The model T numbers the line first, from the top down the middle, and the bar second, drawn left to right across the top.

Few letters are easier to recognize, and it is one of the first that children write from memory. What slips is the bar. Let it slide down the line and the letter becomes a plus sign, or a lowercase t.

Ask whether the hat is on top of the head. Tiger, tent and train begin with T. If your child's name has a T in it, start with that one; it is the T they care about.

How to use this sheet

If the bar keeps drifting down, have your child touch the top line with a finger before drawing it. Line first or bar first both work for T, but keep to one.
