About this worksheet

A name is the first word almost every child wants to write, and the one they will write more than any other. This page leaves the model to you: write the name once in the box at the top, and the ruled rows below are for copying it.

Use a capital for the first letter and lower case for the rest, even before lower case has been taught. A name written in full capitals is a habit that has to be undone later, and children copy exactly what the model shows.

Names carry motivation that no letter-tracing page can match, which makes this the one sheet worth returning to weekly. It is also the fairest measure of progress — the same word, written the same way, week after week.

How to use this sheet

Write the model in the box yourself: capital first letter, lower case for the rest. Children copy the model exactly, so an all-capitals model becomes an all-capitals habit.
